Virgin Media expands fibre to the premise network across Tyne and Wear
1,600 extra homes can now enjoy lightning-fast speeds of over 1Gbps.
Virgin Media has now expanded its fibre-to-the-premise (FTTP) network to more premises across the North Eastern county of Tyne and Wear.
1,600 homes in Newcastle, the neighbourhood of Bruton Park and the district of Longbenton, North Tyneside can now enjoy speeds of over 1Gbps.
That’s enough to support even the busiest, largest households allowing you to download a glossy HD film in less than 30 seconds and enjoy multiple 4K video streaming sessions simultaneously.
The ISP and telecommunications operator has invested more than £84 million in bringing FTTP broadband to the North East since its Project Lightning rollout began in 2015.
The above amount was spent on connecting up 140,000 additional properties in the region, taking their total there up to over 360,000.
