Gigaclear invests £13 million into full fibre network rollout in Dorset
18,000 properties will be able to enjoy speeds of up to 1Gbps by the end of next year.
Abingdon-based provider Gigaclear is to invest an additional £13 million in expanding their fibre-to-the-premise (FTTP) network across Dorset.
The rollout is set to target 18,000 premises, the majority of which will be homes but with a handful of businesses also included, in rural parts of the county.
The towns and villages set to benefit first from the project are Stalbridge, Sherborne, Blandford Forum, Colehill, Sturminster Marshall and Lytchett Matravers.
Currently, it’s thought that all work on this rollout will be completed during 2022.
Gigaclear isn’t the only ISP planning to target these locations. BT’s Openreach and Wessex Internet are to expand their gigabit-capable network through Blandford Forum, which is home to around 11,000 residents, too.
Over 240,000 premises are covered by Gigaclear at this present time and they aim to reach 500,000 UK properties by the end of 2023.
“Dorset is a new area for us but given our build activity in neighbouring Somerset and Wiltshire, this move simply made sense,” said Jo Scarrot, the South West General Manager for Gigaclear.
“Work is underway, and we can’t wait to connect those suffering from inadequate broadband provision to our ultrafast network. It really will transform the lives of so many in the region.”
